Get Involved
Undergraduate Students
Undergraduates can get involved in a number of ways, depending on their availabilities. Interested students should contact Dr. Mykles and talk with him about working in the lab.
Crab Care
Crab Care requires a three-hour, once-a-week commitment. Dr. Mykles splits students into two teams, and the teams work together to feed the crabs and clean cages. It’s a good way to get involved in the lab, and the work helps students learn more about the animals in the process.
Research
Students work on research projects about twice a week for a total of 9 to 12 hours. They work with graduate students to learn more about the biology of the crabs, lab procedures and research techniques. Lab work gives students a chance to learn more about the Crab Lab’s research and the lab as a whole.
Graduate Students
Graduate students who would like to work in the Crab Lab should have a good idea of what crustacean biology they want to research. Students will receive training in equipment and procedure as they work on research projects in the lab. Dr. Mykles may also pair graduate and doctorate students with undergraduates working in the lab.
Interested graduate students should contact Dr. Mykles to find information about openings in the lab and discuss what they’d like to learn while working in the lab.
